A martial arts program for children ages 5 and 6

Little Kickers - Taekwondo for Kids

Little Kickers is Taekwondo for little kids. The classes introduce martial arts skills to young children in a fun and encouraging atmosphere. Classes are offered with rolling enrollment, so kids may join and begin learning at any time.

Akula Taekwondo’s Little Kickers classes are designed to be fun, skill-building, and instill an “I can do it!” attitude. Instructors lead engaging classes where children jump, climb, and learn Taekwondo moves, to develop balance, coordination, and focus — all while having fun.

Little Kickers often traverse an obstacle course designed especially for them and play karate games they love. These activities boost social and problem-solving skills and coordination, and help kids learn to follow directions.

Our youngest students begin learning traditional Taekwondo forms and movements, which is great for brain and physical development. With consistent attendance and practice, children improve motor skills, build confidence, and gain self-control.

Did you know? Balance maturation is not fully achieved until age 12. Children who practice coordination and balance skills can dramatically sharpen attention and learning skills.

Kids love to earn stripes and belts that indicate learned skills. Our belt and stripe system is a great motivator.

Benefits of Taekwondo for Preschoolers and Kindergarteners

Teen Taekwondo student helps a young martial artistEarly childhood is the most important time for brain development. During that time, the brain is developing all the pathways that it will use later on.

In Akula’s Taekwondo classes, your young child will move a lot and experience many new sensations and feelings. Thus, the brain will develop more pathways which make their brain connections stronger.

We recommend letting kids enjoy the new experiences, moves, and activities in Little Kickers Classes without pressuring them for a specific outcome. Hence, they will be more well-rounded human beings and most likely to experience the full benefits of the program.

  • Improved listening skills
  • Increased focus and self-control
  • Development of gross motor skills
  • Optimized balance and posture
  • Establishing a habit of enjoying physical activity
  • Gain confidence, and respect for self and others

Parents Know that Martial Arts Grows Great Kids

When Little Kids Learn Martial Arts, They Build Physical Coordination and Control

Young children who attend martial arts learn to control their movements to the best of their ability. They also practice hand-eye coordination and learn about their bodies. That means they’ll be less likely to be unintentionally destructive.

Karate Kids Learn to Focus

The structure of our martial arts classes shows kids the importance of focus. Children immediately apply their skills to tasks on the mat. Further, the focus they learn in the dojang carries over to home and  classroom. That’s why kids who study martial arts tend to be good students, too.

Progressing through the belt ranks in our Taekwondo school requires consistent attendance and practice. Thus, Little Kickers must learn to be patient and disciplined in order to get what they want. The physical activity in our classes also helps kids manage stress and anxiety by allowing them to burn it off in a safe and constructive way.

Kids Who Practice Martial Arts Learn Good Sportsmanship

We encourage our students to support one another’s successes. Through games in class, students learn that losing is part of life–and it’s what you do after you lose that tells people who you are. Even though martial arts is an individual sport, we cultivate a supportive environment where students root for one another.
